Ultimate Security Mural Commission

Painted on Wangal Country in Consultation with Uncle Paul Newman

Medium: Aerosol and acrylic paint on corrugated iron.

Merindah Funnell painted this mural to celebrate Ultimate Security’s new meeting space, iyora, with a striking mural. With the space intended to act as a place of meeting, connection and gathering, Merindah draws inspiration from the local environment to prompt these themes.

Set against the Burramatta sunsetting landscape and centred around the place name iyora, the design is framed by plants native to Wangal Country - bullrush, waratah and eucalyptus leaves.

The Burramatta River, a life-source for Aboriginal people for countless generations and destined to remain so, appropriately holds a central place in this design while further echoing concepts of travel, connection and gathering. The eel is further celebration of Wangal Country, a key part of the Burramatta ecosystem and Aboriginal culture.
